JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The bomb-squad callout that closed Talleyrand streets for three hours Tuesday was over a possible pipe bomb found in the room of a man with a history of mental illness.
Three detonations were heard at midday Tuesday coming from the 1600 block of East Eighth Street, near the Bishop Christian Home, but police at the time would only say they followed procedures to "render something safe."
Channel 4 obtained the police report, which said a possible explosive device found inside one of the patient rooms at the group home was carried outside by a staff member, who then called 911.
The patient was at the home because of a Baker Act confinement order.
Police blocked traffic on Eighth Street at the Haines Street Expressway at midmorning as bomb squad personnel were seen entering the restricted area. About 1:30 p.m., Eighth Street was reopened to traffic.
