NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. -- Nassau County Sheriff Tommy Seagraves put out a warning about a group soliciting money for what they say is for the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #65 in Yulee.
Seagraves said the solicitations are sent via U.S. Mail or on the phone.
Seagraves said the research done by his department shows the group is saying the money collected is going to the Nassau County community. However, he said none of the money is being distributed in Nassau County.
"Please understand that I am not discouraging you from contributing to this cause if you deem it a worthy cause," he said. "Please know that none of the money collected is being distributed to or used in Nassau County."
The Nassau County Sheriff's Office does collect donations for its annual "Shop with a Cop" program.
Seagraves said be wary of any information you give out, especially over the phone, if you receive a solicitation phone call.
"If you are in doubt about the legitimacy of a solicitor, err on the side of caution and do not send them your hard earned money," Seagraves said.
