ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- St. Johns sheriff's deputies said a 12-month-old child died after being left in the back seat of a car late Sunday morning. Investigators said the child's father had taken the mother to work and did not realize she had placed the infant in the back seat of the car. Upon returning home, the father went inside, realized the little girl was not in her room and began to search for her.
According to authorities, the father found the child in the back seat of the car and called 911 immediately. Rescuers took the infant to the hospital, but the little girl was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Deputies say there were other adults in the home at the time and that the incident appears to be accidental, though they are still investigating.
