4th Teen Dies In I-295 Tragedy

POSTED: Monday, June 15, 2009
UPDATED: 12:25 pm EDT June 15, 2009

A fourth teenager involved in the fatal crash on Interstate 295 has died, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Erin Hurst, 15, died Monday morning at Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center, where she had been in critical condition since the accident on June 5.

The crash happened on the last day of school, when nine teenagers were inside a Ford Explorer headed to the beach. The rear tire separated and caused the SUV to flip three times.

"The truck flipped over and bodies flew all out of the truck," said the first person who called 911. "Right now I see, one, two, three people out the car, and four, no five."

The driver, Brandon Hodges, 15, was the only one wearing a seat belt and the only person not ejected during the wreck. His girlfriend, Rebecca Pilkinton, was next to him.

In the second row, Dennis Stout and Kimber Krebs -- who both died -- along with Erin Hurst and Timothy Adam.

In the back cargo area were John Kiely, who also died, along with Jimmy Gracia and Shannon Broome.

Two students, Pilkinton and Adam, remain in critical condition at Shands. Hodges, Gracia and Broome have all been allowed to return home after being treated at Wolfson Children's Hospital.
