A 35-year-old Palatka man was arrested on burglary charges Monday after police said he left his wallet behind at the scene of a crime.

Officers investigating a burglary at the Putnam County School Board bus garage have arrested Daniel Gibbs.

According to police, employees at the bus garage reported that someone stole two computers, two LCD monitors, a safe and some tools.

Police said an employee helping with processing the scene saw a wallet and a knife at the scene. After determining that the items did not belong to anyone at the office, officers checked the wallet for identification and found that it belonged to Gibbs.

Investigators went to Gibbs home, where they said they found a safe matching the description given by the school board employees. Officers also said they located a generator and hand tools suspected of being stolen from another local business.

Gibbs was arrested and charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of grand theft, two counts of criminal mischief, possession of cocaine and violation of probation.

Investigators said Gibbs was already on probation for burglary and theft. He was booked into the Putnam County Jail with no bond.
