JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A police-involved shooting in the Brentwood area left one person dead Monday afternoon, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
The fatal shooting took place in the 100 block of West 18th Street shortly before 6 p.m. A large area of the neighborhood was blocked off while police investigated the circumstance of the shooting.
Authorities said two Jacksonville police officers were working off-duty for the Springfield Preservation & Revitalization Council when they saw two men walking down the middle of the street.
One of the men stopped and talked with the officers authorities said, but the other man was uncooperative and then he tried to run.
Authorities said an officer used his taser on him and when he fell to the ground, his gun fell out. Authorities said the suspect got up after getting stunned, and pointed his gun at officers. That was when the officer shot him.
Authorities said the officers shoot him multiple times and that he died at the scene. The name of the victim has not been released. Police said no officers were injured during the shooting.
