New Details Released On Toddler's Death

POSTED: Tuesday, June 16, 2009
UPDATED: 9:04 pm EDT June 16, 2009

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office released a police report regarding an accident over the weekend that claimed the life of a 1-year-old girl.

Despite the report, there were still many questions to be answered about what happened to Arianna Long.

Long was left for several hours in a parked car outside her house on Sunday. When she was found by a family member, the baby was not breathing. She later died at the hospital.

The police report detailed what happened when St. Johns County sheriff's officers arrived to the residence.

In the police report, it said a family member who was looking for Arianna Sunday morning saw the car parked in the driveway but the engine was running and the baby was in the back.

The car was locked with the keys in the ignition. When the family finally got the car unlocked, Arianna was blue in color and not breathing.

The police report also indicated that her father moved her to the garage and rescue was then called. Police said on Sunday that the family was confused about who was taking car of Arianna.

Police said that Arianna's father never knew she was in the car when he dropped the mother off at work on Sunday morning. Police said the father assumed the mother had left the child with relatives in town for a visit.

Police are not talking about the case. They are waiting for a report from the medical examiner to determine the official cause of death.
