Child Backed Over Home From Hospital

Girl's Older Brother Says 'She's Doing Good"

An 18-month-old girl critically injured when she was run over by a car earlier this month was released from the hospital Thursday.

Her family held a celebration Saturday to welcome her home.

Makayah Wilson suffered brain injuries when she was backed over in the parking lot of the Blodget Villas Apartments on June 2. Police said the girl got away from her grandmother and a neighbor accidentally hit her.

Makayah was rushed to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center, where she battled brain swelling and a coma.

Makayah's family said she is getting back to her normal self and they are proud of her recovery.

"At first she was hurt, but now she's doing good," said Makayah's older brother, Eriq Gilyard. "She's walking and talking."

For now, Makayah will being going to therapy three times a week and is wearing a headband to cover the scars.
