JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 reopened shortly after 7 a.m. Monday, more than one hour after a single-vehicle wreck of a prison van blocked the highway.
The Florida Highway Patrol told Channel 4 that a Brevard County corrections officer driving the van fell asleep. The vehicle left the road and overturned. The driver, Jaqulyn Davis, 30, a second corrections officer and the prisoner being transported were not injured.
Police said the prisoner was placed into the custody of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Both eastbound lanes of I-10 were blocked near Chaffee Road, backing up traffic for through the morning rush hour.
The FHP said Davis was charged with careless driving.
