Suspect Named In Fatal Shooting

St. Augustine Man Killed During Robbery On Saturday

UPDATED: 8:52 pm EDT June 30, 2009

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office has named a man they consider armed and dangerous as a suspect in Saturday's shooting death of a 31-year-old St. Augustine man.

Ricky Ricardo Murray was in his car on Asia Road in San Mateo about 2 p.m. with another adult and a child when two assailants approached on foot and demanded money. Murray was shot as he attempted to drive away.

Murray made it to the Dollar General store on U.S. Highway 17 in East Palatka, where rescue personnel responded. Murray was transported to a hospital in Palatka, where he died.

Late Tuesday, Putnam County Capt. Dominic Piscitello said that detectives have identified Calvan Johnson, 22, of San Mateo as a suspect. They have obtained an arrest warrant charging Johnson with second-degree murder.

Anyone who has information about Johnson's whereabouts is asked to call the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers at 888-277-8477.
