JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Several hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry were stolen from a Jacksonville business on Saturday.
Nearby workers were stunned after hearing two armed robbers walked into Sun Jewelry at the Gateway Mall Saturday afternoon and robbed the store.
“We don't know why it happened, (or) why they would do that to her anyways,” said nearby worker Crystal McBride.
The jewelry store owner, who does not want to be identified, remembers what happened that Saturday afternoon.
“At that point I thought I was dying, I thought he was gonna shoot me,” the store owner said.
The woman, who is in her 60s, is so afraid that she only spoke with Channel 4 over the phone.
The police report said the suspects tied up three other employees. A JSO substation is just a few hundred feet away, so once the owner was outside, she screamed.
“I was fearful he might shoot and he gonna kill somebody,” said the store owner. “So I start to run, he grabbed and knocked me down on the ground and start to kick me.”
When police arrived, the suspects were gone and so was a whole lot of jewelry.
The store had silver gold and diamonds. The victims said the robbers got away with $300,000 worth of jewelry
The jewelry store owner suffered a concussion and large bruises all over her body. She has a warning for others.
“I just want all the merchants to watch out for innocent looking guys who come out always be aware always be cautious,” said the store owner.
The store owner said that she doesn't have enough insurance to cover the loss, and she's so scared that she doesn't know if they'll re-open. If you have information about the crime that can help police you're urged to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
