PALATKA, Fla. -- A search warrant of a Palatka home on Wednesday turned up one of the largest methamphetamine labs ever discovered in Putnam County.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Office and the Palatka Police Department found meth and chemicals used to manufacture the illegal drug in the home in the 200 block of Blanchette Avenue and arrested James Calloway, 40.
A hazardous waste disposal team responded to the scene and dismantled and disposed of the lab.
Members of the central Florida-based dismantling team told detectives that it was one of the largest clandestine labs they have disposed of in some time.
Deputies said the search warrant was a result of an investigation into an organized group believed to be manufacturing and distributing meth in the Putnam County area.
Calloway was booked into the Putnam County Jail on charges of possession with intent to sell methamphetamine, possession of listed chemicals and the manufacturing of methamphetamine.
