St. Johns Deputies Seek Man With Gun

Sheriff's Office Release Composite Drawing Of Gunman

POSTED: Thursday, July 2, 2009
UPDATED: 4:54 pm EDT July 2, 2009

St. Johns County deputies are searching for a man in connection with a suspicious incident early last month in the Vermont Heights area.

A 20-year-old woman told deputies that a man pulled a gun on her about 4 a.m. on June 8, then sped away in his car.

The victim said she and her boyfriend went to a convenience store on state Road 207, where they had a verbal argument. The woman said her boyfriend left her there and she went into the store to make a purchase. A man was behind her in the store and after walking outside, the subject asked her if she needed a ride. She declined the offer originally, but then agreed after he asked her several more times.

The man dropped off the victim at state Road 207 and Maine Street, then rolled down the window and asked her a couple of inappropriate questions of a sexual nature, police said.

She told police she refused and began to walk away when the man pulled a handgun from beside the seat, cocked it and pointed it her direction. Police said the victim screamed and ran away and the subject sped away toward Interstate 95.

The man was described as a Hispanic male in his early 20s with a buzz-cut hair style. He was about 5 feet 8 inches tall, 175 pounds and was wearing glasses, black pants and a black jacket. He was driving a newer model blue Chrysler PT Cruiser.

Anyone with any information concerning this man’s identity is asked to contact the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office at 904-824-8304.
