1st-Degree Murder Charge In Beaches Slaying

Charles Pearce Also Charged With Attempted Murder

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The man accused of killing a former firefighter at Jacksonville Beach in February was indicted Thursday on a charge of first-degree murder.

Earlier this month, Charles Pearce, 30, pleaded not guilty to a charge of second-degree murder in the shooting death of 42-year-old Mike McCue, who was shot in the driveway of his home.

Pearce was arrested in Arizona more than a week after the killing. He did not fight extradition, and was brought back to Duval County in March.

After the Duval County grand jury reviewed the case this week, they handed up an indictment charging Pearce with first-degree murder.

Pearce is also charged with attempted murder in connection with a separate shooting about a block away from where McCue was killed. Police said Pearce initially fired a shot at his stepfather, but missed him.

Not long after, McCue was shot and killed outside his home, one block away.

Pearce's next court date is May 2.
