Through all of the hammering and drilling, Troy Reagan said his new fence is the one he's wanted all along, built so he could keep his two dogs safe in his backyard.

"I'm just really happy," Reagan said. "I'm just ecstatic that somebody stepped up that's part of the community to do this for me."

Reagan's happy ending wasn't easy.

The first time Channel 4 spoke to him, he said he had just paid a $1,300 deposit to a company called First Coast Fencing to build the fence. But he said the problem was that they never came back to build it.

When Reagan tried reaching the company, they were nowhere to be found.

Channel 4 obtained police reports that showed this wasn't the first time First Coast Fencing was accused of not following through.

The owner, Michael Cummings, spoke to Channel 4 and claimed he wasn't a crook, but rather a businessman who hit some tough times and couldn't afford to finish the job.

That's where Mike Grubbs, of Best Fence, and Kelly Culepepper, of Enduris, come in.

They heard the story on Channel 4 and wanted to reach out to Reagan to get him his fence.

So they offered to build it at the price Reagan would have paid the first time around minus the deposit.

Reagan said he learned a lot of tough lessons in his experience.

Whether you're building a fence or getting other work done on your home, you need to do your homework.

"I would try and get references, make sure they're insured," Grubbs said. "Make sure they have a storefront or somewhere you can go and see if they have a business. Make sure they're licensed. Make sure they have all of their insurance in place."

Cummings said he's working with the district attorney's office to help pay back the Reagans.

Reagan said he's just glad Grubbs and Culepepper came in to do a job he thought he could no longer afford.

"I was actually thinking of doing this myself, really just to save money," Reagan said. "There's no way I would've mastered this."
