FORT WHITE, Fla. – Two Alabama men were arrested by deputies Wednesday after an altercation and vehicle pursuit in Fort White, according to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies arrived at 199 Southwest Schofield Terrace in Fort White for a possible stolen vehicle where shots were fired.
As deputies were looking for the stolen blue Hyundai Elantra, it was found on CR 240 off State Road 47 and stopped, authorities said.
A late-model Dodge Charger occupied by two men was with the stolen car and it fled the area as deputies attempted to stop it resulting in a pursuit, the Sheriff's Office said.
During the pursuit, the Dodge Charger lost control and became disabled at S. Marion Street and Butler Glen. Deputies said the 19-year-old driver, Zack Edward, and 25-year-old passenger, Thomas Wilson, ran from their vehicle.
Edward was then arrested by deputies. The Sheriff's Office said a nine-block perimeter was set up and Wilson was tracked by Sheriff's Office and Baker Correctional K-9 teams, resulting in his arrest a short time later.
It was learned that the two men had given a ride to Tomika Stallworth from Alabama to Fort White in order for her to get the car she was co-owner of. Deputies said outside 199 SW Schofield Terrace, one of the men shot at Fredrick Abner, Stallworth's ex-husband, as they left with the car.
No charges were brought against Stallworth because taking the car is a civil matter, however Edward and Wilson, both from Alabama, were arrested for attempted murder, fleeing and attempting to elude, and resisting officer without violence, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Edward and Wilson are being held in the Columbia County Detention Facility on no bond, deputies said.
The pistol used in the incident was recovered in Stallworth's Hyundia, where Wilson threw it as they were leaving the Schofield address, authorities said.
"I'm proud of the way our deputies and assisting agencies handled this situation," said Sheriff Mark Hurter. "Their observant and decisive actions removed two dangerous men from our community."
