2 arrested in Columbia Co. Internet cafe robbery
Employee, acquaintance charged with robbery, grand theft, criminal mischief
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two man in connection with the robbery of an Internet cafe on U.S. 90 West two days before Christmas.
Deputies say a man cut the power to the cafe, broke into the office and stole an undetermined amount of money. The business was open at the time and customers witnessed the masked man commit the robbery.
On Saturday, Columbia County detectives arrested Carlos Ruiz, 20, an employee of the business, and an acquaintance, Zachary Waters, 20. Investigators determined that Waters planned the robbery and that Ruiz knew of the robbery scheme.
The Sheriff's Office says the two suspects communicated via cell phone moments before the planned robbery occurred and Ruiz was working at the night of the robbery.
Both suspects were arrested without incident on charges of robbery, grand theft and criminal mischief and booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility.
