2 Arrested In St. Augustine Bike Theft

Several Bicycle Thefts Reported In Area

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Two men were arrested in St. Augustine after police said they caught them stealing a bicycle.

St. Augustine police said because of a number of recent bicycle thefts in the downtown area, a detective set up a bait bicycle near St. George Street about 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

The detective saw a man identified as George Quinn walk over to the bike and sit on a park bench while checking out the bike and the surrounding area, police said.

Police said Quinn left and went to the corner of Hypolita and St. George streets and talked to a man identified as Jeffery Henderson.

Police said that at about 1 a.m., Quinn went back to the bike and took it, handing it off to Henderson. They said Henderson rode away.

Police said an officer stopped Henderson on Hypolita Street, where both Quinn and Henderson were arrested on charges of grand theft of a $350.00 Trek Classic bicycle. Both were booked into the St. Johns County Jail.
