“In the shrinking budgets, cutting staffs, it's very significant to know that we can pick up the phone and have our neighboring counties, whether it's Bradford, Duval, St. Johns, whoever it is, come in and assist each other in situations like this,” said John Ward, Bradford County’s director of emergency management.

“This could have been a potentially dangerous situation. Thankfully we had newly installed hydrants that were installed less than a month ago and tested so we had adequate water supply, well-trained volunteer firefighters, well- trained coordinated efforts between Clay and Bradford Counties that gave us a rapid response and a good knock down on this fire and kept it from spreading beyond the building of origin,” said Michael Heeder, of Bradford County Emergency Management.
