2 hurt, kids OK after shots fired into home

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – A man and a woman were shot and their children "miraculously" were not hurt after a large number of bullets were fired into the family's home Monday night, according to the Alachua County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were called to the home in the 3700 block of Northwest County Road 235, west of Gainesville, after the residents said there were some suspicious people near their home late at night, then said they'd been shot.

The family was taken to a hospital, and deputies searched the area and said the shooters left just before they arrived.

Deputies said the shots were fired into the home from multiple locations. They said the couple moved through the home to protect the children, and the man and the woman were shot multiple times.

A piece of furniture where a child was resting was shot and hit several times, deputies said.

Deputies said the victims are continuing to receive medical care, and the children are being cared for and safeguarded.
