Two Columbia County men were arrested Tuesday in connection with the burglary and theft of several firearms from a home last week.
The victim told deputies she received information that identified a suspect in the burglary.
When a deputy tried to make contact with that man, 22-year-old Scott Phillps, at his Lake City home Tuesday, the deputy saw Phillips running away from the home carrying a rifle case.
Phillips was apprehended a short distance away from the home after a brief foot chase.
Deputies said several of the stolen firearms were recovered at the scene.
Later in the afternoon, deputies developed a second suspect, 21-year-old Curtis Handy. Deputies said they searched his Fort White home and found additional firearms stolen during the burglary.
Handy, who was not home when deputies found the stolen items, later called the Columbia County Sheriff's Office to report that his guns were stolen. Deputies arrived back at his home and took Handy into custody without incident.
Both suspects were booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility on charges of burglary while armed, grand theft and criminal mischief. The stolen items were returned to their owner.
