JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Two people are in the hospital with serious injuries after they fired shots at each other after a verbal dispute, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Around 8:30 p.m. Friday night, JSO responded to shots fired at 4455 Confederate Point Road.

According to JSO, the preliminary investigation revealed that two people in separate cars were involved in a verbal dispute.

The dispute escalated when one of the people exited their car and shot at the other person. The second person then returned fire.

Both were injured by gunfire and were taken to UF Health with serious injuries.

Detectives, evidence technicians and patrol are canvassing the neighborhood to speak with potential witnesses, searching for and collecting potential evidence, as well as speaking with the parties involved to determine more information.
