2 sought in exploitation of elderly man

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A man and woman are being sought for questioning in St. Johns County in connection with fraudulently obtaining a large amount of cash from an elderly man in a Walmart parking lot Monday afternoon.

The 82-year-old victim told deputies he was in the parking lot of the shopping center on U.S. 1 South at 2 p.m. when the two approached him.

Deputies said the man and woman detailed a story about themselves obtaining a significant amount of gambling money. They also told the man he could profit from the gambling money if he would withdraw money.

The victim gave the couple $250 then and withdrew over $4,000 more from his bank.

The woman was seen on surveillance at the bank. She is described as black, in her 60s and wearing a red flower dress and carrying a large black purse.

The man is described as black, in his 60s, and was wearing a grey shirt and grey trousers.
