2 sought in Nassau County home invasion shooting

Man shot in serious condition

CALLAHAN, Fla. – Nassau County deputies are searching for two men who broke into a Callahan home and shot a man early Friday morning.

Deputies said the men went into the home in the 45100 block of Arline Road about 3 a.m.

They said one man went into Damion Wright's room and shot him in the stomach, causing serious injuries. The other man went into Wright's mother's room and asked for money.

Wright was taken to a hospital, where he underwent surgery.

Craig Busbee said he wasn't aware what was happening at the time. All he heard was a noise that woke him up.

"The next few minutes I heard footsteps run out," he said. "And so I open the door and say, 'Hey, mom, what's going on? What's going on?' She said someone's just trying to rob us with a gun, and then my brother came stumbling out of the back room and was shot."

The home invaders are described as black men, one about 5 feet 4 inches tall with dreads and pantyhose over his face, the other about 6 feet 2 to 6 feet 3 inches tall with pantyhose over his face.

"My momma saw the masked guy because he was the short dude," Busbee said. "Because once he saw her he pushed her back in the room and told her to be quiet and demanded some money."

The men fled in unknown direction.

Deputies said a similar case occurred at about 9:30 a.m. March 30 at a home in the 45200 block of Whitfield Road in Callahan. Deputies said two men entered the home and stabbed the victim.

Investigators said these two occurrences are very near each other and may be related.

The home invaders in both of these cases are considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with any information on these two crimes is asked to call Detective Brewer at 904-548-4034 or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS (8477). Tips leading to an arrest may be eligible for a reward up to $3,000.
