2 women sought after St. Johns County deputy dragged 40 feet by car

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office is searching for two women they say robbed a Winn-Dixie store and  dragged a deputy with their car while trying to get away Monday.

According to the Sheriff's Office, employees of the grocery on U.S. 1 North just north of State Road 16 reported that two woman were shoplifting.

An off-duty deputy located the women as they were getting into a gold Chevrolet Impala. The deputy was halfway inside the car when the driver accelerated through the parking lot, dragging the deputy for about 40 feet before he was released, the Sheriff's Office said.

The car (pictured) was last seen driving south on U.S. 1.

The deputy suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The woman driving is described as being black, in her 50s and heavy-set. She was wearing a white tank top and carrying a large blue purse.

The passenger is described as being a black woman in her 40s. She was wearing a long, blue-and-black, multi-colored dress.
