Police Arrest 2 After Robbery, Chase
POSTED: Saturday, July 25, 2009
ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- Authorities arrested two Jacksonville men after police said they led investigators on a chase that ended with one of the suspects being bitten by a police K-9.
Deputies said William Henry Gardner, 20, and Zachary Daniel Hisle, 19, were arrested by St. Augustine Beach police after attempting to flee. Investigators are also seeking a 16-year-old male who was in what police are calling a second “lookout” vehicle.
Deputies said it all began at 2:25 a.m. Saturday, when the clerk at a convenience store in the 300 block of A1A in St. Augustine Beach called police to report a robbery. The clerk said a man came into the store, pulled out a handgun, pointed it at him and demanded money.
The clerk told police he gave the robber money and the robber took off and got into a car, the description of which the clerk gave to police. When cops caught up with the car and tried to pull it over, the driver sped off, leading police on a chase westbound on state Road 312.
Police said the suspects eventually stopped the car, got out and ran off, somewhere near the 700 block of state Road 207. Investigators arrested the two men after employing a K-9 unit.
Deputies tell Channel 4 Gardner was transported to Flagler Hospital where he was treated and released for a dog bite. Police said the two suspects admitted to the earlier robbery in Ponte Vedra Beach and charges are pending further investigation.
