NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. -- Fernandina Beach police are searching for a rapist who attacked a girl just as she was arriving home.
At least 20 officers swarmed Saddler Road Thursday afternoon after the girl was sexually battered inside her own home, police said.
Investigators said the suspect was armed with a knife and cut the victim during the assault.
Police did not confirm the girl's age, but neighbors said she's in her teens.
Police said the girl was jogging in her neighborhood earlier when she was confronted by the intruder.
"In a small town like this, you don't see stuff like that," local resident Jesse James said. "It's a shame."
Police described the suspect as a skinny white male between 40 and 50 years old with a scruffy, reddish-brown and gray beard and shoulder-length hair. Police said he was last seen wearing a dirty yellow Polo shirt and khaki shorts.
Officers said the teen appeared to have minor injuries from the attack.
Police ask if you can help identify the suspect to call the Fernandina Beach Police Department at 904-277-7342.
