JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Another homecoming, another happy celebration. More than 500 sailors on board the USS Vicksburg and USS Halyburton pulled back into Naval Station Mayport Friday.
After six months of deployment friends and family were all smile and hugs as the sailors departed their respective ships.
"Our son is from Alberquerque," one parent whose son was arriving said. "It's been over a year since we've seen him, and we're happy that he's home."
"I'm speechless right now," said sailor Demyson Goodwell, who got to hold his baby daughter for the first time. "It's my first time meeting her. I'm just blown away. I'm just blown away."
Also returning were members of the ship's embarked helicopter squadrons HSL 46 detachments 2 and 4.
Both ships conducted several international military exercises. They joined with more than 17 countries and maritime security operations, which included counter-piracy taskings.
The Vicksburg and Halyburton are part of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group.
