Memorial Held At Downtown Cathedral

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A crowd of about 850 friends, family and familiar political faces filled St. Johns Episcopal Cathedral for a tribute to the late Sen. Jim King.
The longtime legislator from Jacksonville died last Sunday, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
"There's a void in the political scene in Jacksonville and in the state of Florida. He was bigger than life in many ways. I wouldn't have gotten elected without him," said former state Rep. Joe Arnall.
Rep. Ander Crenshaw said King's presence was felt from Jacksonville, to Tallahassee, all the way to Washington. "I always kept up with what he was doing, the things he was doing for our city, state, and then we could work together on things at the national level," said Crenshaw.
Democrats like Rep. Corrine Brown considered King an ally, as well as an impressive opponent.
"We'll miss him, but he's done his work and he's made this place a better place, and that's what we all need to try to do," Brown told Channel 4's Mary Baer.
King's priest told the crowd King was most proud of his work fighting for "death with dignity" and that he did die with dignity.
There will be another memorial service for King Tuesday in Tallahassee in the House Chambers at the Capitol.
