JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Florida black bear relocated several times by wildlife officials was killed in Georgia after scaring kids off a basketball court and tearing up a home.
The bear wore an ear-tag embedded by Florida officials naming it SO11. It was first captured in Broward County, then put in a forest nearby. After another relocation, the bear moved north, was sited several times last month in Amelia Island, then swam across the St. Marys River into Georgia.
Georgia wildlife officials found the bear after it caused damage at a home in the Sugar Mill Plantation in St. Marys, tranquilized it and relocated it to a forest in a rural part of Camden County.
But it turned up Saturday in a town called Screven, northwest of Brunswick.
The bear never harmed anyone, but appeared to have no fear of humans.
Ken Boyette shot the bear after consulting wildlife officials. He said he didn't want to but was afraid someone would get hurt.
