JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police said an armed robber went into a Gamestop on Beach Boulevard on Monday night and demanded the new Madden NFL 10 video game.
The game flew off store shelves when it came out about two weeks ago.
"I just heard it was good," video gamer Brian Fletcher said. "I mean, Madden's Madden. Come on. Everybody loves Madden. Can't beat it."
"It's very realistic, followed by you get to create your own teams and rosters and do all sorts of things," video gamer C.J. McCloud added.
According to the police report, the suspect went in just before closing time and acted like he wanted to buy an Xbox system, but instead of pulling out his wallet, he pulled out a gun.
Investigators said he forced store workers to "specifically place Madden and Xbox 360 games in his bag."
He got away with a total of 23 games valued at more than $1,300, two Xbox systems and $600 cash.
"I think it's pretty weird someone would actually request a specific game when they're grabbing anything they can," McCloud said.
According to the police, the Gamestop on Atlantic Boulevard was also robbed recently, and the circumstances were very similar.
"It's a game. It doesn't mean you got to rob a store for a game," Fletcher said.
While video gamers are stunned, they're also hopeful police will catch the suspect.
"In my opinion, it's just stupid to even rob," McCloud said. "I hope they have everything they can get on him on film or something."
If you have any information on the suspect, you're asked to call Crimestoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
