Cocaine Found Mailed In Toaster Oven

U.S. Postal Inspectors Say They Found 2 Kilos, $36,000 Worth Of Drugs

From the outside, the box looks like it contains a new toaster oven. But U.S. Postal Inspectors said what they found inside is much more valuable.

Investigators said they found two kilos of cocaine hidden inside a toaster oven. The street value for that amount of cocaine is $36,000.

"It's good when you can keep these kind of drugs off the street," said Jack Cowen, director of the U.S. Postal Inspectors in Jacksonville.

Cowen said the package was sent from Arizona. He didn't say how, but it caught investigators' attention.

"The postal employees are always aware of suspicious items that come through the mail," Cowen said. "They generally notify us when they find something that's not quite right."

Investigators held the package at the post office on Busch Drive until police said Latoya Degraffread came to pick it up.

Police said she told them that the package held a gift for her daughter. But investigators said she's not the only one involved in mailing the cocaine.

They said Anthony Graham was waiting for her in the lobby of the post office, and the pair had recently returned to Jacksonville from a trip in Arizona.

Now they've both been arrested and are accused of trafficking cocaine.

"It's a federal offense," Cowen said. "You'll be charged, federally be prosecuted and spend time in a federal prison."
