JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A big fish known as "Big Bubba" is now on the loose in a Westside pond, and could soon be the big catch in a fishing tournament.
Organizers of the "Catch Bubba" Fishing Tournament released the namesake fish, a 58-pound catfish, Thursday morning. They also released some other catfish into the pond, which has been the site of the tournament for several years.
The tournament, which will be held on Oct. 10, benefits the
Downtown Ecumenical Services Council. DESC uses the proceeds to provide food, clothing and financial assistance to Jacksonville's needy.
Anglers will be competing for several prizes in the tournament. If someone catches "Big Bubba," they will win the top prize of $5,000. If the 58-pound fish is not caught, the top prize will be $3,000. The angler catching the second largest catfish of the day will win $1,000, and the third place prize will be $500.
This is the 14th year of the tournament. If you'd like to register, you can call the tournament hotline at (904) 403-3859, or visit the
tournament's Web site.
