WAUCHULA, Fla. -- Authorities said a Marine has died from injuries sustained when his parachute didn't open during a training exercise in Hardee County.
According to a release from the sheriff's office, the Marines were jumping from a C130 aircraft Thursday when someone called 911 to report that a Marine's parachute didn't deploy.
Sgt. Jeremiah D. McGraw was taken to Florida Hospital Wauchula, where he was pronounced dead. The 22-year-old Boynton Beach resident was a Selected Reserve Marine assigned to 4th Air-Naval Gunfire Liaison Company in West Palm Beach.
A joint investigation is being conducted by military personnel and the Hardee County Sheriff's Office.
The training exercise was being held in the Peace River town of Wauchula.
