Timeline Of Quinn Gray Case

A timeline of events surrounding the disappearance of Quinn Gray and the subsequent investigation involving the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the FBI and the Clay County Sheriff's Office. Note: Many of the event detailed in this timeline are taken from the affidavit St. Johns County detectives used to obtain an arrest warrant on Gray and are only allegations, not proven facts.

  • 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4: Gray's husband calls police to say she had been abducted by three men. St. Johns County deputies find ransom note asking for $50,000 at their home on Ponte Vedra Boulevard.

  • 10:42 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5: Quinn Gray call's husband's cell phone to see if he had the money. Forty-three minutes later, she calls back asking him to take the money to Southside Boulevard near J. Turner Butler Boulevard. She said she would be killed if he didn't follow instructions.
  • Emerson Inn
    Owner of the hotel where detectives say Quinn Gray and Jasmin Osmanovic allegedly spent Labor Day weekend told Channel 4: "Of all the places, they found mine."
  • Saturday, Sept. 5: Gray and man later identified as Jasmin Osmanovic check into room 207 of the Emerson Inn, a hotel on Philips Highway. The owner, Andy Mohan, said: "She didn't seem distressed. They were just here to have a little fun." He said the man left several times without her.

    12:02 p.m.: Quinn Gray calls back to say to drop the money at the Chick-Fil-A restaurant on Southside Boulevard just north of Avenues Mall. Forty-five minutes later, Quinn Gray calls to say the kidnapper had spotted three "Fed" cars. The husband was then called and told to go home and wait.
  • Sunday, Sept. 6: Quinn Gray's mother arrives in town and leaves voice and text messages on Quinn Gray's cell phone. Quinn Gray says the mother is now the point of contact for money drops.

    Deputies were notified when Quinn Gray did not return to her home in the 400 block of Ponte Vedra Boulevard on Friday night.
    10:30 a.m.: The mother was instructed to go to a port-a-potty at Mickler's Landing, then drop the money at Joe's Crab Shack at Jacksonville Beach. Four college students from Valdosta, Ga., picked up the bag, but, believing drug dealers were fallowing them, called police.
  • 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6: Gray's mother was instructed to head for Jacksonville Beach for another money drop. After driving around for several hours directed by alleged kidnappers to several locations, no money drop was made. No additional contact was received.
  • 6 p.m. Labor Day, Sept. 7: Quinn Gray walked up to a Clay County sheriff's deputy in a parking lot on Wells Road, identified herself and said she was kidnapped. The deputy said she was agitated and, at one point, cut his wrist with a split-open soda can she was carrying.

    Labor Day evening: Quinn Gray was transported to the FBI office in Jacksonville to be interviewed. At first, she said she was abducted at gunpoint by three Albanian men, claiming her husband owed $75,000 to their boss, a loan shark. She said they would settle for a $50,000 payment. She refused to take a polygraph test and was allowed to leave. (PVB Woman Claims She Was Kidnapped)
  • Monday, Sept. 8: Quinn Gray called the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office to say she had been sexually assaulted. A medical examination found no sign of trauma. She also said wanted to tell the truth about her abduction.
  • Man wanted for questioning in Quinn Gray disappearance
    St. Johns County releases composite sketch of a man wanted for questioning in the kidnapping of a Ponte Vedra woman.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 9: Quinn Gray reports to the sheriff's office to say that what she'd told the FBI "was totally rehearsed." She said she was taken from her home to a warehouse on Friday where she was forced to have sex against her will. She described the sex in detail.

    Quinn Gray told investigators she and the "kidnapper" checked into the Emerson Inn. She said she was in "survival instinct" and doing what was necessary to protect her family.
  • Thursday, Sept. 10: Quinn Gray takes a polygraph test at the FBI office in Jacksonville. Authorities said she failed the exam and was not telling the truth. She agreed to provide a composite sketch of the kidnapper and around trying to find the warehouse where she was taken. (Man Wanted For Questioning In Abduction)
  • Friday, Sept. 11: St. Johns County detectives released composite sketch to media asking for help identifying and locating the man.

    Deputies believe the man in these photos taken at the Palm Valley Publix may know something about the disappearance of a 37-year old Ponte Vedra woman.
  • Saturday, Sept. 12: Quinn Gray calls deputies to ask why they had not going to the Publix at Micker's Landing where the "kidnapper" had bought chicken wings, an Italian sub sandwich and a newspaper. Deputies said it was the first she had mentioned it. They obtain surveillance video and release it to the media the next day.
  • Monday, Sept. 14: Quinn Gray called deputies to say she had found the "kidnapper's" car and the warehouse where she was taken. St. Johns and Jacksonville deputies respond to the the location and make contact with a man later identified as Jasmin Osmanovic, who matched the description of the man in the sketch and from the Publix surveillance video.

    Osmanovic agreed to be taken to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, where he was read his Miranda rights. Detectives said Osmanovic initially denied knowing Gray, saying he spent the weekend with a girl named "Stacey." He later admitted he knew Gray and had a sexual relationship with her for the past six weeks.

    Osmanovic told detectives he had been to her home many times -- even having sex there -- and spending Labor Day weekend having consensual sex at the Emerson Inn. He told detectives she was never tied up, had her cell phone and was left alone with the keys to the hotel room several times.

    During searches of Osmanovic's warehouse and vehicle, detectives found a bag containing jewelry, Gray's husband's passport and her purse containing Quinn Gray's checkbook, credit cards and YMCA card.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 15: A woman identifying herself as Osmanovic's girlfriend provides investigators with an audio tape she said came from Osmanovic's Jacksonville Beach residence. Detective said recording is of Osmanovic and a woman having sex and talking about a "fake kidnapping." The woman can be heard going over her "story."

    Jasmin Osmanovic made a first appearance via closed-circuit television from the St. Johns County Jail.
    Later that day, detectives contacted Osmanovic's mother, who said she also had a digital recording relevant to the investigation. The recording was provided to detectives at Osmanovic's attorney's office. Investigators said the recording is "what appears to be a detailed 'rehearsal' by Quinn Gray of the incident." The recording also contains what appears to be explicit and consensual sexual activity between the Gray and Osmanovic.

    Mid-afternoon Wednesday, Sept. 16: St. Johns County Judge Wendy Berger signs an arrest warrant charging Quinn Gray with extortion. By 4 p.m., detectives walked Quinn to the St. Johns County Jail.

  • 8 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 17: Gray appears before a judge on the extortion charge. Asked if she can afford a lawyer, she says, "I don't know yet." Bond remains set at $1 million.

  • 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17: An attorney for husband Reid Gray spoke to the media.

    "Mr. Gray is deeply troubled by the recent events that have taken place," attorney Chris White said. "At this time, Mr. Gray's sole focus is on the care and well being of his two daughters."
