Baby Found In Dumpster Now Doing Fine

Neighbors Found Baby Grace 2 Years Ago

Some locals may be curious about whatever happened to the baby found abandoned in an apartment complex Dumpster two years ago.

Residents of the Beachwood Apartments on the Southside discovered a newborn girl in July of 2007 in a Dumpster, wrapped in bloody bed linens with her umbilical cord still attached.

Neighbors heard the infant crying.

"I listened to the baby cry," one neighbor said at the time. "When we took it out of the sheet, it was crying."

For days, police went door to door at the Beechwoods Apartment Complex trying to find the baby's mother, but they never did.

Eventually they released a photo, hoping someone would see the infant and come forward. But again, police had no luck.

That was two years ago. The baby became known as Grace, and Channel 4 hadn't heard about her again until now.

Jim Adams, the CEO of Family Support Services, handled her adoption.

Baby Grace became part of someone's family.

"She was adopted and is thriving, growing up to be a normal little baby as baby's grow up," Adams said. "What's unique with that story is how fast we were able to put her through the adoption process. Great Judge, Judge Gooding, adopted in six months."

Baby Grace is now 2 years old. Her parents want to remain anonymous and have never granted an interview. But Adams said he's been in touch with them, and it makes him smile knowing this story has a happy ending.

"Through that story we got hundreds of phone calls from people who wanted to become foster parents," Adams said. "That was one of the great benefits of that story other than the child finding a permanent home."

Police have not been able to track down the biological mother of Baby Grace.
