Deputies Say She Was Last Seen At 4 A.M. Thursday

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help looking for a 21-year-old woman last seen early Thursday morning.

Deputies said Kymberly Anne Meredith was last seen about 4 a.m. running barefoot toward state Road 26 near Shiloh Road in Melrose.

Investigators said that sort of behavior is out of character for Meredith and they believe she may be in danger.

Deputies said they searched the area on foot, with tracking dogs and with a helicopter.

"She could still be in a wooded area somewhere and hurt, or she could have be abducted," Maj. Gary Bowling said. "We're going to very carefully approach both of those ideas."

Meredith's mother, Barbara, said her daughter had been acting strangely prior to her running off. She said she saw a car pass by their house as her daughter ran off, but she's not sure if her daughter got into that car.

Meredith's parents said they are celebrating their 24th wedding anniversary Tuesday and would like to have her home.

"This is a nightmare that you see on TV," Barbara said. "Until it happens to you, you don't get it."

Barbara described her daughter as a reclusive person who usually spends most of her time at home. Barbara said that Kymberly began sending her brother unusual text messages on Thursday night and making strange accusations about her parents, even asking if they were in a cult.

Barbara said she looked at her daughter's cell phone records and they showed that Kymberly called 911 about the time she ran off.

"I want her to know that we're going to do whatever we can to help her," Barbara said. "That she's not in any trouble."

Meredith was last seen wearing a blue denim skirt and a garnet-colored FSU hooded sweatshirt. She was also wearing a pair of black-rimmed prescription glasses.

Meredith is described as having brown hair and brown eyes, 5 feet 9 inches tall weighing 150 pounds.

Anyone with information about Meredith's whereabouts or who saw any suspicious activity along S.R. 26 between 4 and 11 a.m. last Thursday is asked to call the Putnam County Sheriff's Office at 386-329-0808 or 800-426-9975.
