Convicted Murderer Kills Cell Mate, Self
POSTED: Wednesday, September 23, 2009
STARKE, Fla. -- Officials said a convicted murderer who once asked jurors to give him the death penalty fatally stabbed his cell mate before taking his own life at a north Florida prison.
The body of 41-year-old Christopher Lunz was found Tuesday in a cell at Florida State Prison in Starke.
A spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Corrections says it appears to be suicide. Lunz was sent to the facility only a day earlier after officials discovered his cell mate, 46-year-old Nathaniel Taylor, stabbed to death Monday at the Franklin Correctional Institute in Apalachicola.
Lunz was serving a life sentence for the 2003 robbery and murder of his father in Palm Harbor. Taylor was in prison for multiple sex crimes against children.
Authorities are still investigating.
