GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The 911 calls started coming in just minutes after a baby fox was spotted in a Gainesville parking lot over the weekend.
"I called 911 because there's a fox at the Kmart," one person said.
"We have a fox in our parking lot, a young fox," a Kmart employee told 911.
At first, the fox was wandering around Moe's restaurant, but then it made its way over to the Kmart and eventually went inside the store.
Shoppers were stunned. One caller stayed on the line with the 911 operator.
911: I'm sorry, it's bothering the customers, you said?
Caller: Yeah, it's walking up to them.
911: Being a little overly friendly to people is he?
Caller: Yes.
"I don't know if it was looking for the blue light special, but it was wandering around looking confused," said Art Forgey, who works with the Alachua County Sheriff's Office.
Forgey said animal control officers went to the Kmart and caught the fox.
They don't know where it came from, but there are some woods nearby the shopping plaza.
Forgey said luckily no one was hurt and the animal wasn't aggressive.
"OK, we've got someone on our way to you," the 911 operator told a caller. "Try to keep the customers from getting anywhere near the animal, OK?"
No one was hurt, but animal control workers put the fox down and are testing it for rabies.
