A veteran Jacksonville firefighter is heading south to become the new chief of the Clay County Fire Department.

Lorin Mock will begin his new role in November.

Mock joined Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department in 1981 and was with the department until he retired last year.

When he retired, he was the chief of emergency preparedness.

Mock relocated to northeast Florida from Pennsylvania. As part of JFRD, he received mayoral appointments as both Division of Chief of Operations, overseeing the Department's fire suppression and communications activities, as well as the Division Chief of Emergency Preparedness.

Mock is currently serving as the Domestic Security coordinator for the Florida State Fire Marshal's Office.
