JFRD Says Another Man In Separate Bike Crash Taken To Shands

POSTED: Friday, October 2, 2009
UPDATED: 10:13 pm EDT October 2, 2009

Investigators said a man died Friday night from an accident involving a parked car and a bicycle.

The accident happened in the 300 block of East Fourth Street in Springfield.

Investigators said the bike ran into the parked car, and the man was taken to Shands, where they said the bike rider died.

Homicide is investigating, but police said they don't know why he crashed, what caused it or why the crash was so severe that he died.

Investigators said a truck was passing by as the bicyclist hit the car, but they do not know if the truck touched the bike.

"We need to identify the vehicle. We need to know who was driving and find out what they may have seen," Det.. M. A. Knox said.

Witnesses described the vehicle as a full size pickup with a dark color, possibly a Ford F-150. Anyone who may have seen the vehicle is asked to call traffic homicide at 904-630-2178.

Jacksonville Fire-Rescue said another man who was in a separate traffic related crash was taken to Shands in critical condition.

JFRD said the accident, which happened at Moncrief Road and Rowe Avenue, involved a bicycle and a moving vehicle.
