JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- They said they're worried about what health care reform would do to the nation's seniors.
On Monday morning, activists rallied outside the local office of one of Florida's senators to make their voices heard.
Members of First Coast Tea Party staged their "Respect Your Elders" event outside the office building that houses Sen. Bill Nelson's office.
Those at the rally said proposed health care reforms would hurt the Medicare coverage that seniors currently have.
"They're going to take money from Medicare in order to pay for this health care bill, and it's not right and it's not fair," activist Billie Tucker said. "And our elderly people are going to be taking a hit on it."
Channel 4 contacted Nelson's office about the rally.
They said he appreciates those who advocate for ideas on how to fix the health care system, and that he's reviewed more than 50,000 calls, letters and e-mails on the topic.
His office also said he is working to add measures into the health care bill that would protect seniors who are covered by Medicare.
