JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- It's not too early for children to start thinking about Halloween, including figuring out what they're going to wear or practicing what they're going to say.
And for parents, it's never too early to start thinking about how they're going to keep their children safe.
On Halloween, parents encourage their children to go door to door, but there's no telling who's on the other side. That's why police said parents need to check it out before hand.
This year the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is putting a special message out across the airwaves.
"We all want to keep our kids safe, especially around Halloween," a radio ad says.
The FDLE wants parents to visit their Web site at www.flsexoffender.net. They not only want parents search for offenders and predators in their area, but this year they're encouraging parents to sign up for their alert system, which will notify parents by e-mail when someone on the registry moves into their neighborhood.
It's something Rose Weber thinks is a great idea.
"You never know, anybody could be moving into the neighborhood," Weber said. "They're still building out here."
The FDLE said its system is important all year around, but if you haven't signed up for it yet, Halloween is the best time to start.
