Man Charged In Double Stabbing At Club

Two 24-Year-Olds Killed At Nightclub Last Month

UPDATED: 7:36 pm EST November 5, 2009

A Jacksonville man arrested Wednesday night by U.S. marshals is charged with two counts of murder in connection with the stabbing of two men outside a Fleming Island nightclub last month.

Clay County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Dan Mahla said Cornelius Waltson, 27, was arrested at his home on Royal Avenue on the Westside.

Kevin Martin and David Smith were each stabbed once Oct. 18 during a fight outside Club Myth on Eastwest Parkway, just south of state Road 220. The men, both 24 years old, died.

Clay County Sgt. Dan Mahla said the fight began outside the club just before 2 a.m. closing time and the club was cleared.

"Our investigation revealed there were several physical altercations in the parking lot between dozens of people," Mahla said. "Two of those altercations, obviously, turned deadly."

Mahla declined to say what the fight was about, but did say Walston did not know his victims. He would not said what weapon was used or whether it was recovered.

Mahla said additional arrests were expected in the case.
