Veterans Day Closures In Northeast Fla. Announced

Duval County:

Most city government offices and facilities in Jacksonville will be closed next Wednesday in observance of the holiday.

The closures include City Hall, the Ed Ball Building, Jake M. Godbold City Hall Annex, Yates Building, Duval County Courthouse, Supervisor of Elections main office and branch office on Norwood Avenue, Planning and Development Department administrative offices, Animal Care and Protective Services on Forest Street and San Jose Boulevard, Animal Code Enforcement Office, Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department administrative offices, Recreation and Community Services Department, all community and senior centers and gyms managed by the Recreation and Community Services Department, Tillie K. Fowler Regional Park Nature Center. Victim Services Center, Jacksonville Children's Commission, Behavioral and Human Services Division Emergency Assistance office, right-of-way and grounds maintenance administrative offices, Solid Waste Division administrative offices, Household Hazardous Waste Facility, The Ritz Theatre and Lavilla Museum, and the Jacksonville Public Library.

Residential garbage, yard waste and recycling will be collected as usual on Veterans Day. The Trial Ridge Landfill, which is located on U.S. Highway 301, will have normal operating hours.

Huguenot Memorial and Kathryn Abbey Hanna Parks will maintain regular hours on that day as well.

The Cecil Aquatics Center will be open from 9 a.m. until 6.

All three city tennis complexes will be open from 9 a.m. Until 6.

St. Johns County:

All offices of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners and all public libraries will be closed on Veterans Day. Normal hours will resume on Thursday, Nov. 12. All garbage, yard debris and recycling will be collected on its normal weekly schedule.

Flagler County:

There will be a special Veterans Day Ceremony Wednesday morning at 10 in front of the Government Services Building.

Students from Flagler Palm Coast High School will participate in the ceremony.

The guest speaker for the event is retired U-S Army Chaplain Harry Gilman. He has 23 years of active duty and served in Germany and several areas of the United States, including four years as chaplain of the Old Guard at Arlington National Cemetery. He retired in Flagler County and he is still active as an ordained Baptist minister.

The event is free and the public is invited to attend.
