ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- Mourners overflowed an Orange Park church for Sunday's memorial service for a brother and sister authorities said were killed by their father, who then took his own life.
Kevin Whitelaw, 16, and his 11-year-old sister Katie were shot to death early Tuesday morning while they slept.
It was standing room only at Grace Episcopal Church on Sunday afternoon as hundreds of people gathered to celebrate the siblings' lives and say goodbye.
About 100 more stood outside to watch the services on video screens.
A former neighbor in their gated Fleming Island neighborhood said coming to terms with their deaths has been hard.
"Little Katie was as cute as can be. Kevin came over to the house quite often in their younger years," said Keith Dease. "Just awesome, awesome kids."
Those wishing to help the family pay for funeral expenses can donate to the Dana Whitelaw family fund at any Compass Bank location. The account number is 251-845-244.
