JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Brandon Becar thought his dad was still in Iraq Sunday when he was to be featured at the Jaguars game during their Military Appreciation Day.
Instead, Brandon got the surprise of a lifetime when he saw his dad running out onto the field as his name was announced over the loudspeakers.
Maj. Kevin Becar has been working with the Jaguars on the surprise since April. He was in Iraq for a year-long deployment with the Army National Guard.
"Through e-mails, he got me in touch with a public affairs officer in Iraq, and I told them what was going on, and they said, 'Yeah, we can do that,'" Kevin Becar said.
The planning didn't end there. Kevin Becar arrived home a few days before the game, and he had to hide at a friend's house.
"That's probably been the hardest part was to be home since Thursday and stay hidden until Sunday because all I wanted to do was see him," Kevin Becar said.
Brandon Becar said as he was standing on the field and he could see someone running toward him, he didn't know who it was at first.
"Oh my God, it really is him," Brandon Becar said. "I didn't think it was possible. It was awesome. Just undescribable."
Brandon, who's in the fifth grade at Fleming Island Elementary School, is being allowed to take his school work home for the next two weeks to spend time with his dad while he's still in town.
