ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- The St. Johns County Public Library is offering patrons a chance to help the community while wiping out their library fines, with its second annual "Food for Fines" program.
From Monday, Nov. 16, to Saturday, Dec. 18, patrons can bring one sealed, non-expired, non-perishable food item to the library in exchange for each $1 in overdue fines. Patrons who do not owe any money for fines are also invited to contribute.
All of the food collected will be given to the St. Johns County Food Bank, to be distributed through the community.
Last year, "Food for Fines" brought in nearly 8,000 food items. Library leaders hope this year's program will be even more successful.
The "Food for Fines" waiver is for library fines only and may not be applied to fees for printing or lost items, nor may it be used as credit against future fines.
For more information about "Food for Fines" or to find a library branch, call library administrators at (904) 827-6925 or visit
