JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- From racing to retirement.
Since it's beginning, Greyhounds as Pets of Northeast Florida has adopted out more than 2,800 greyhounds.
On Sunday, hundreds of the adopted returned to watch the new retirees get new homes.
The Jacksonville Kennel Club hosted the 19th annual Greyhounds as Pets adoption event.
Nearly 200 people turned out for the event, with their greyhounds in tow.
Shirley Kane, the executive director of the event, said despite their racing genes, the dogs are calm, gentle animals that love companionship.
Since 1988, the group has had a 100-percent adoption rate.
