JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Raines High School student is being hailed hero after saving his family from a massive fire at their northwest Jacksonville home.
The fire happened Friday night in the 1400 block of West Second Street.
Raheem Hutchinson said he walked to the kitchen just after 10 p.m. and found smoke and flames bursting from the stove.
That's when the 16-year-old and his friend sprung into action.
"While he went to get some water, I went and made sure everybody got out of the house safe," Hutchinson said.
Hutchinson was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation but is doing fine.
The family's landlord said he will be moving the Hutchinson family into a temporary home sometime Monday or Tuesday.
